An Extra-Credit Possibility!

• Make arrangements to meet with another student from your section of this course for an uninterrupted hour of one-on-one, face-to-face conversation. You may meet on campus or off campus, and you may talk about anything you like, whether or not it has anything to do with the course you're both taking. Bring your notebook. After the hour's conversation, swap notebooks and sign the first numbered line on your partner's "Extra Credit" page, located in the General Notes section in the front of the notebook. Don't sign anyone's notebook unless you have in fact engaged in a one-on-one, face-to-face conversation of at least an hour's duration with that person.

• You may do up to a total of 10 of these interviews for extra credit, and each interview you do is worth 1 extra-credit point, so altogether you can earn up to a total of 10 points. (Note: Each interview must be with a different one of your SPC-101 classmates.) When you've accumulated 10 extra-credit signatures, show me your "Extra Credit" page. Don't rip it out of your notebook — just show it to me, and I'll add 10 points of extra credit to your point total.

• If, on the last pre-final-exam day of the semester, you have accumulated at least one signature but haven't yet shown me the "Extra Credit" page of your notebook, show it to me then. You will receive 1 point of extra credit for each signature you've accumulated, up to a maximum of 10 extra-credit points. If you forget to show me the "Extra Credit" page by the due date, you will not receive any of the extra credit, even though you took the time to earn it, so don't forget to show me the page on time!

• Remember, these conversations are to be conducted face-to-face (not by telephone or instant messaging), they are to be held one-on-one (not in a larger group discussion), they should last a minimum of one hour (not, for example, two half-hour conversations), and each of them should be with a different one of your SPC-101 classmates.

• I certainly hope this doesn't happen, but it's possible that some of you may be tempted to sign each other's notebooks without having actually had the hour-long one-on-one face-to-face conversation. Please don't do that. This credit is so easy — and enjoyable! — to earn, there's really no need to steal it!
