On August 19, Laurie and I loaded up my car and set off for our new lives in Iowa. First stop was Cleveland, OH, where I lived for 15 years before moving to Maryland in 2006. We pulled off the Ohio Turnpike a little south of the city and met my dear friends Les and Holly for lunch at Damon’s, then drove several more hours, stopping for the night somewhere in Indiana. The next day, August 20, we crossed Illinois and wound up in Cedar Falls, Iowa — and, at 8 AM on the 21st, I reported for work at my new job at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo!
