Laurie and I drove up to the north shore of Lake Superior on June 30 and spent four nights at the lovely Grand Superior Lodge in Castle Danger (what a great name!). Despite Laurie's broken toe, we managed to do a day trip north to Grand Marais, a 30-mile bike ride, and a fair amount of hiking. On July 4th, we drove back down to St. Paul and had dinner (and watched fireworks) on the roof of Stella's, a great fish restaurant in Uptown, with my old college friend Alvin and his wife Penny.
