On her way back to Arizona to begin her second year of law school, Becca spent one night with us in Waterloo. The next morning, August 19, the three of us drove in two cars to Kansas City, in time to see Stephen Kellogg solo opening for Dar Williams at Liberty Hall in Lawrence. Great sets from both of them! On August 20, we spent a very full day sightseeing. First stop was the Hallmark Visitor Center (where we met card icon Maxine), then an exhibit of Lego art at the Crown Centre, then a fabulous barbecue lunch at Arthur Bryant's. After that, we drove to Independence for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum with my grad school friend Clay, who's been the curator there for 25 years, and then fried chicken at the legendary Stroud's. Next morning, Becca headed west, while Laurie and I stuck around another day to see Dave Alvin and the Guilty Women at the Folly Theater.
