On April 2, Sunde, Laurie and I listened to Bob Dorr and the Blue Band at the Hub in Cedar Falls — and, the next night, Sunde, her husband Kevin and I were at the Electric Park Ballroom in Waterloo to see Koko Taylor and the Blues Machine. Koko is 80 years old, bless her. She was only onstage for about 45 minutes, and she had to sit down and catch her breath from time to time — but the Queen of the Blues still can belt it out. I took this picture during "Wang Dang Doodle" — one of her signature tunes — and was standing close enough to the stage that I didn't need to zoom in.
