On December 20, we took an all-day excursion to the Mayan/Toltec ruins at Chichen Itza. It's a tourist attraction and there are vendors everywhere, selling fake Mayan artifacts (which we figured are probably mass-produced in China) for rock-bottom prices. The day we were there, though, it was surprisingly not too crowded, and we had plenty of time to explore the site. This is the main temple, which is in bad enough shape these days that the turistas are no longer allowed to climb its 91 stone steps. (There are 91 steps on each of its four sides, for a total of 364. Add the platform at the top, and you get 365 steps in all, one for every day of the year.)
