| For the first time since she was 1 year old, Becca and I spent the entire eight nights of Hanukkah together this year. After finishing her final exams — which means she's halfway done with law school! — she flew to Milwaukee, and I drove up and met her there. We ate German food at Mader's that night, and the next day hit the Mitchell Domes and the Milwaukee Museum of Art, bought sausage at Usinger's and ate brats at the Hofbraühaus. Next day, we stopped for a couple of hours in Madison, had poulet rôti for dinner at Fritz & Frites in Galena, IL, and then got home in time for candles. There was a lot of snow on the ground in Iowa, so we didn't do all that much for the rest of B's visit, but we did go see two lovely animated films — The Princess and the Frog and Planet 51 — and we ate some good food and lit candles every night. One of my gifts from my daughter was an argyle sweater. She likes argyle, and we'd bought her one to add to her collection earlier in the week, so this photo shows me in mine, her in the one she already had, and Laurie borrowing her new one — which she liked enough that, next day, we went back to the store and got her the same sweater. On December 19, I drove Becca down to Cedar Rapids to catch a flight back to Arizona, and on the 22nd Laurie and Tessa and I set off for the East Coast in two cars.... |
