"The First Law of Plumbing"
This one's yet another story that began with a title. Laurie and I were on our way to the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond, and she mentioned having read an article that referred to "the first law of plumbing." By the time we finished roaming around looking at the flowers and butterflies, I'd roughed out the idea for the story, and I wrote it pretty much as soon as we got home.
No Easter eggs, this time. Just a simple piece of flash fiction, set in an unidentified location, about a couple of small-time home invaders who are either pretty dumb, pretty unlucky, or both....
Mystery Magazine ran the story in its June 2023 issue.
