"The Night of Power"
"Along the way you will enter the world of Pakistan on the most holy day of Ramadan in 'The Night of Power,' where Mahboob Chaudri solves a most gruesome crime."
Well, close: the story's set in Bahrain, not Pakistan but Mahboob is a Pakistani, so I suppose it's an honest mistake.
Twenty stories from the pages of EQMM and AHMM, collected in hardcover and published by Carroll & Graf in 1996. As in the similarly structured Murder Takes a Holiday, the stories are arranged geographically, and "The Middle East," the final section (of eight) consists of two tales: mine, and Agatha Christie's "The Adventure of the Egyptian Tomb." So at least this time around I was in excellent company!...
