"A little redundancy makes the puzzle more interesting."

This story introduced 12th Precinct detectives Bynes and Allen, who I later decided to feature in a series of a dozen stories, each revolving around one sign of the Zodiac.

Byrnes and Allen only wound up appearing in one more story, though, "DDS 10752 Libra," which I cowrote with John Lutz and which also starred John's series character, Alo Nudger.

A third Zodiac Detective story wound up changing direction and turning into a Dick Tracy adventure! It was cowritten with Francis M. Nevins, Jr., and was published as "The Leo's Den Affair."
