As a graduate student at the University of Michigan in 1975, I took a cinematography course from Dr. Frank Beaver. As my final project for that course, I script, directed and edited a 16mm film version of this story, titled Ashes, Ashes.
The film won first prize in that semester's U of M student film festival, and an except was included in the student-filmmakers episode of Directions: The Cinema, a television series produced at the university's educational-tv station and directed by my dear friend Rudi Goldman. The series was aired on network tv in 1976, but it showed on Sunday mornings, and not even I got up to watch it....
